Paul and Becky's Wedding
Castle Rooms - 8 rooms - €225 approx £167
Authentic castle rooms built with traditional materials

The rooms in the main building of Castell d’Empordà offer spacious accommodation for a memorable stay. The decoration tastefully blends Spanish history with exquisite materials from all over the world. You will experience the warm castle interiors that we used to express the sensation of bygone days, as well as ornaments and paintings that the proprietors collected during their travels.

The position just a few steps away from restaurant and bar is a double advantage considering the easy way back to your bed. In the morning, before or after a refreshing bath, you can enjoy the stunning views of the Ampurdàn countryside.

Garden Suites - 8 rooms - €285 approx £212
Contemporary rooms with a high level of luxury

What distinguishes a Suite from a Room? Space of course. Our Garden Suites measure 58 square metres each, divided into a romantic bedroom and a cosy sitting room. But there is more. The large bathroom is inspired by the oriental hammam, with lots of marble and a tub for two with panoramic views.

Responsible for the look and feel of our Garden Suites is Cristina Gabàs, the famous and repeatedly rewarded Spanish interior designer. By using the typical colours of Ampurdàn she gave the suites the extraordinary sensation of being part of the landscape, even with the balcony doors closed.

Garden Rooms - 18 rooms - €210 approx £155
Contemporary rooms with a traditional twist

The property of Castell d’Empordà expands to around 30 acres in total, including olive groves and oak woods. On the lower part of this ample garden, at the east side of the castle, a complete new wing was architecturally integrated into the old defensive wall. This part of our hotel houses the Garden Rooms that merge modern comfort with classic elements and a natural touch.

The oak floors and the colours used refer to the world outside. Most of our Garden Rooms have private balconies to enjoy the beautiful sunset. To reach the terraces and the swimming pool on castle level there is an elevator to take you up.

Tower Rooms - 3 rooms - €165 approx £122
Castle room with a great view and private terrace

Are you an adventurer? Not afraid of heights and in reasonable physical condition? Then our Tower Rooms might be perfect for you. Within the limited space of the square castle tower we succeeded in creating very charming hotel rooms. These rooms offer all the comfort that the Castell d’Empordà stands for the only difference with our other rooms is that we changed the bathtub for a shower with extra gravity. The highest spot of our hotel offers you a 360 degree view of the Ampurdàn.

You can even see the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea. That will be your daily bonus for climbing the safe, but long and small staircase up to your temporary heaven.

Gift List
We have had quite a few requests regarding gifts, for us the gift is having our friends and family there for the wedding!
However, if you do wish to buy us something then we will of course be very grateful. We have set up a list which has some gifts and options of money towards our honeymoon. Details below.
List number 10159269
Girona
If you are intending to spend a couple of extra days in the area do think about visiting Girona. It’s only a 30 minute car journey away and we guarantee you will be impressed. Journeying in by car look out for the two landmark churches (the Cathedral and Church of Sant Feliu), you will see these off to the left as you approach the city along side the river on the C-255. Head towards the churches where you will see plenty of on street parking although this maybe fully occupied but there are also plenty of underground paid for car parks in this area. Once parked head for the Placa de I'Independencia, from there you can take one of the little bridges across the river Onyar into the old town. They have one of those little tourist trains that will give you an overview of this part of the city before you set off on foot. This medieval city is much more than just the Cathedral, as you stroll around the old quarter (Barri Vell) which dates back to Roman times you will be impressed by the architecture. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes where you can sample the local delicacies, do try the little doughnuts filled with crema catalana. All of this in easy walking distance and with the very friendly locals on hand for advice if you get lost, it's a must.
Peratallada
Even if you only have a few hours to spare while you are here it would be worth taking the ten minute drive to Peratallada. Situated just a few kilometres north east of the hotel this small fortified medieval town is a real beauty. In 1991 the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was partly filmed on location here. The castle in the town has been documented as early as 1065 AD, during restorations in the 1960s traces of a settlement were uncovered that date back to the Bronze Age. What Peratallada is best known for is it’s old stone buildings, rutted stone streets and passageways which are home now to some 14 restaurants, small boutique hotels and artists’ galleries. Private cars are not allowed inside the town walls (apart from residents) so you can wander around the town in peace and safety. There are a number of well sign posted free car parks around the periphery of the town. Well worth a visit!
L’Estartit
Those of you with small children may wish to visit L’Estartit which is a small seaside resort on the Costa Brava. Becky actually spent three family holidays here in her childhood! Apart from the beaches and the obligatory seaside shops, cafes, bars and restaurants there are boat trips around the Illes Medes. This small archipelago of various uninhabited islands is a protected National Park and is home to many differing species of flora and fauna. The boat trips which are on glass bottom boats allows you to see the various marine life in this area. You can also snorkel from the boat if you are a little more adventurous! There are an abundance of golf courses in the area if that takes your fancy.
Aigua Blava
This is the most beautiful little cove! Think Cornish cove only with sunshine and heat! Situated near Begur and Palafrugel it has a very small white sand beach and a few mainly seafood restaurants. You can sit on the beach and watch sailing and motor boats pull in , moor-up and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this circular bay. The sea here is also very good for snorkelling. Well worth a visit!
